Private medical centres
The Hirslanden Continence Centre is part of the Hirslanden Group, Switzerland's largest private healthcare group.   It is situated adjacent to and cooperates closely with Klinik Hirslanden, the principal hospital in the Hirslanden Group.
Neurophysiological measurements and tests are available to do this, including measurement of the reflexes, the speed of pelvic nerve impulses and examination of pelvic floor muscle activity.
Hirslanden Continence Centre
The Hirslanden Continence Centre examines and treats patients with disorders of the bladder and urinary incontinence.
Specialists in the fields of neurourology, neuropelviology, urology and gynaecology collaborate closely to achieve the best possible outcome.
Preliminary assessment
A neurological assessment then focuses primarily on the bladder and urethral sphincter. If this urodynamic examination is combined with imaging procedures like ultrasound or X-ray, the practitioner can also assess the form and appearance of the individual organs of the upper and lower urinary tract in parallel.
A urodynamic examination can be carried out on an out-patient basis and takes around an hour.  Each measurement is carefully prepared and performed to uniform standards and in certain cases it may make sense to examine the pelvic floor and the pelvic nerves.

The Centre is uniquely placed to benefit from the new and exciting area of neuropelviology.  This was pioneered by Prof Marc Possover, who heads the Neuropelveology Centre next door.
Urodynamic and pelvic examinations
The attending doctors and therapists look at the whole person, taking account of their individual needs and then draw up a personal treatment plan, together with patients and their families.
Examination in the Centre for Neurourology is preceded by a detailed consultation with the doctor and a physical examination. Furthermore, a urine sample is taken in order to ensure that the examination findings are not misinterpreted due to conditions such as an inflamed bladder.
Urodynamic examinations help to identify the causes of incontinence or a dysfunction of the urinary bladder. This makes it possible to distinguish between disorders of the urine-storage and urine-expulsion functions of the bladder.

Examination
The emptying of the bladder is normally a very private matter, so it is especially important to deal with the patient with respect and empathy in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere during the examination.
With experienced practitioners, sensitive handling and correct interpretation of results, the cause of the dysfunction can be identified in just about every case and a promising course of treatment commenced.
